about
William Graham was a well-known poacher and singer of folk songs. He may have even written this one himself about his own conviction and transportation for the killing of a gamekeeper near Penrith in 1856, along with his two brothers. The words of this version have survived but I wrote new music to them for this project. Graham himself defied many odds in his life and, following his release, went on to be a farmer and kangaroo hunter in Western Australia. (Pete M)
