about

William Graham was a well-known poacher and singer of folk songs. He may have even written this one himself about his own conviction and transportation for the killing of a gamekeeper near Penrith in 1856, along with his two brothers. The words of this version have survived but I wrote new music to them for this project. Graham himself defied many odds in his life and, following his release, went on to be a farmer and kangaroo hunter in Western Australia. (Pete M)

Words anonymous, music by Pete Moran (vocals, guitar). Accompanied by Peter Michael Rowan (fiddle, vocals), Rich Evans (cello), June Swift, Gwen Bainbridge, Tom Corda-Stanley (vocals)
