about

Mary Chambers was the young wife of a tailor in the fell town of Wigton. She was convicted of stealing some minor articles of fabric including handkerchiefs and cloth in 1818. Sentenced to transportation she went on the prison ship Minerva to the Parramatta Women's Textile Factory, a cruel penal colony in Sydney, Australia. My song plays with textiles as a recurring theme both in the facts and the feel of this sad story and its journey through the years. (Pete)

Written and sung by Pete Moran (vocals & guitar). With Peter Michael Rowan (fiddle & vocals), Rich Evans (cello), Gwen Bainbridge & June Swift (vocals).
